South Korean power firms expand global grid infrastructure footprint

South Korean power infrastructure companies are experiencing significant growth driven by global demand for grid modernization and AI-related data center expansion.

Taihan Cable & Solution has secured major turnkey projects in the United States, including 500kV HVAC underground grid projects and 320kV HVDC cable supply contracts. In the United Kingdom, the company is participating in the London Power Tunnels 2 (LPT2) project, providing 400kV cables and engineering services to National Grid to stabilize London's power supply.

Simultaneously, the export of large-scale transformers to the United States rose 65% year-on-year in the third quarter. Major manufacturers, including HD Hyundai Electric, Hyosung Heavy Industries, and LS ELECTRIC, are projected to see substantial increases in operating profits. While exchange rate fluctuations and project delivery schedules present short-term variables, these companies are expanding local production capacities in U.S. states such as Tennessee, Alabama, and Utah to meet sustained long-term demand.
