South Korean President backs 392‑trillion‑won Chungcheong tech investment

The South Korean president delivered a speech at the Chungcheong‑region advanced‑industry development forum, praising the investment decisions of Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Celltrion. The three companies announced a combined 392 trillion won (approximately $300 billion) plan covering semiconductors, NAND‑flash, advanced packaging, display panels and bio‑technology facilities in the Chungcheong area. The president likened the pledge to the historic 1983 semiconductor launch by Lee Byung‑chul and said the move will position the region as a global AI‑era innovation hub. He affirmed that the government will provide strong backing, infrastructure and balanced regional development, rejecting claims that firms are being pressured to invest. The announcement follows a broader push to expand high‑tech production outside the capital and strengthen South Korea’s position in key future industries.
