South Korean President Lee Jae-myung criticizes progressive camp over double standards

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has launched a week-long critique of the progressive political camp, accusing them of hypocrisy and double standards regarding political correctness. In a series of social media posts, Lee argued that the current backlash against political correctness stems from the inconsistent attitudes of those promoting it rather than the values themselves.

Lee specifically addressed his recent comments regarding foreign workers and multicultural families. He stated that while support for multicultural families should address specific needs like language education and cultural adaptation, blanket preferential treatment in areas such as childcare or postpartum care requires verification of fairness. He noted that treating all multicultural families as socially disadvantaged could inadvertently emphasize distinction rather than social integration.

In his remarks, Lee also referenced former President Chun Doo-hwan, suggesting that the former leader's pursuit of a “justice society” had tainted the term itself. The President’s comments have drawn responses from the Justice Party, which urged him to correct his own words and actions before lecturing others on hypocrisy.
