U.S. President Donald Trump attended the G7 summit in Évian‑les‑Bains, France, where he announced a memorandum of understanding with Iran that includes a $300 billion reconstruction fund and the reopening of Iranian oil exports. The agreement, described by Republican senators as a “give‑away” that offers economic benefits without concrete nuclear concessions, has drawn sharp criticism from both parties. Senators Roger Wicker, Bill Casy, Ted Cruz and John Cornyn warned that Iran has provided no substantive non‑proliferation measures and that the deal could pressure future negotiations.

Trump defended the pact, claiming it would lower global oil prices and boost the U.S. stock market, while Vice President Mike Pence echoed the administration’s stance. Trump also warned that if Iran fails to honor the agreement, the United States could resume military action. Iranian leader Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi Khomeini called the MOU “conditional approval,” signalling Tehran’s reluctance to accept all U.S. demands. The G7 dinner also featured other world leaders, including South Korean President Lee Jae‑myung, who sat beside Trump during the event.
