South Korean processed chicken products begin exports to Vietnam
South Korean processed chicken products, including chicken nuggets and ‘Yongari Chicken’, have commenced their first exports to Vietnam. This milestone follows the conclusion of hygiene and quarantine negotiations for heat-treated poultry, a result of the summit between South Korea and Vietnam held in April.
Harim, a major South Korean food company, led the initial shipment of approximately 2 tons of products. The company plans to export a total of 70 tons, valued at approximately 700 million won, to the Vietnamese market by next year. Vietnam is considered a key Southeast Asian market with a population exceeding 100 million and a rapidly growing meat consumption trend.
While the export marks a significant achievement after nearly ten years of negotiations, challenges remain regarding production capacity. Currently, only two out of 15 domestic processing facilities are registered for export to Vietnam. South Korean officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety have pledged to support the registration of additional facilities and strengthen local marketing efforts to expand market presence.
