South Korean protester livestreams after court rejects arrest warrant

A 30‑year‑old woman blocked staff of the Korean Sports Federation from entering the handball arena at Olympic Park, which was being used as a polling station for the June 3 local elections. She was charged with obstruction of business, and prosecutors requested a pre‑trial detention. On 21 July the Seoul Eastern District Court denied the arrest warrant, stating there was no risk of evidence tampering or flight. Eight days later the woman appeared on a YouTube livestream, describing her action as “God’s calling” and saying she would continue to spread a positive influence. She also mentioned plans to attend a reception for the incoming U.S. ambassador. The same remarks were later repeated on her lawyer’s YouTube channel, where she referenced the discomfort of being in detention.
