South Korean public libraries launch free summer cultural programs

During July and August, libraries across Gyeonggi Province will host a series of free activities aimed at expanding community access to reading and culture. Programs include night‑time reading camps, a "Media Art Oasis" with LED displays and ASMR sound, jazz and humanities concerts, maker‑space workshops, family music events, and ecological night walks in forested library grounds. Small neighborhood libraries will also receive funding for heating and cooling to serve as cool‑off shelters during the heat wave.

In Seoul's Jongno district, the district library is collaborating with four local bookstores to run a free July program series. Events feature museum tours, book‑talks, reading discussions with editors and photographers, and ecological observation activities for upper‑grade elementary students. All activities are offered at no cost, aiming to strengthen the local reading‑culture ecosystem and encourage residents to discover neighborhood cultural spaces.
