South Korean public supports nuclear armament in Gallup poll

A Gallup Korea poll conducted from February 25 to 27 reveals that 65% of South Korean respondents support the country possessing nuclear weapons, while 30% oppose it. Support for nuclear armament was high across political lines, including 78% among People Power Party supporters and 60% among Democratic Party supporters.

Regarding the Ministry of National Defense's proposal to integrate the Army, Navy, and Air Force academies, 58% of respondents expressed opposition, compared to 30% in favor. Political affiliations showed a divide on this issue, with 85% of People Power Party supporters opposing integration, while 54% of Democratic Party supporters favored it.

On the issue of transferring wartime operational control within the current presidential term, 46% favored the transfer while 41% suggested delaying it. Additionally, 70% of those surveyed believe the South Korean military holds a superior strength compared to North Korea, and 39% believe there is a possibility of North Korea initiating an actual war.
