South Korean regional festivals highlight kimchi culture and technology

Various regional festivals in South Korea are preparing to showcase the diverse culinary and cultural aspects of kimchi. The 33rd Gwangju Kimchi Festival will take place from the 23rd to the 25th at the Gwangju Government Complex area. Under the theme ‘Dominate! Kimchi Party’, the event features the ‘Table of a Thousand People’, where local restaurants will serve innovative dishes such as cabbage ramen, aged kimchi oil pasta, and kimchi mayo chả giò.

In addition to culinary offerings, the Gwangju event includes kimchi-making workshops, salt experiences, and live shows by presidential award-winning kimchi masters. Evening performances will feature a mix of opera, crossover music, and traditional Korean performances.

Meanwhile, the 22nd Sanbuk Pumshil Festival in Yeoju will be held on November 7th and 8th, rebranded as the ‘Sanbuk AI Kimjang Culture Festival’. This event aims to integrate artificial intelligence with traditional kimchi-making customs. Programs include hands-on kimchi making using locally produced cabbage, family walking competitions, laser survival games, and traditional activities for children such as making rice cakes and grinding grain with millstones.
