South Korean regional sports council elections approach in December

Elections for various regional sports council leadership positions in South Korea are approaching in December.

In Haenam, five candidates have entered the race for the third term of the Haenam Sports Council president. Incumbent Lee Gil-un is seeking reelection, facing challengers Min Min-woo, Park Jang-nam, Yoon Seong-mun, and Cho Seong-sil. The election is scheduled for December 23, with an electorate of approximately 150 members to be finalized via random draw in early December.

In the broader Chungnam and Daejeon regions, elections for provincial and metropolitan sports councils are also intensifying. For the Chungnam Sports Council, incumbent Kim Young-beom is expected to run for reelection, while Kim Taek-gyu is reportedly considering a candidacy. In Daejeon, incumbent Lee Seung-chan is confirmed to seek a third term, with potential challengers including Oh Ju-young and Choi Seong-un. Candidate registration for both the Chungnam and Daejeon elections is set for December 3–4, with the vote taking place on December 16.
