South Korean regional sports festivals promote community unity

Local communities in South Korea recently held large-scale athletic festivals to promote regional unity and communication.

In Ongjin County, the 53rd Daecheong-myeon Citizens' Sports Festival was held at Dapdong General Stadium. The event brought together approximately 700 participants, including local residents and soldiers from the 65th Battalion. Activities included volleyball, tug-of-war, and relay races, aimed at strengthening the bond between the military and the local community.

In Seongju County, the 53rd Seongju County Citizens' Sports Festival took place at Seongju Byeolgoul Stadium. The event involved residents from 10 townships and featured 11 different sporting categories, such as group jump rope and park golf putting. Seonnam-myeon took the overall championship. The festival included a ceremonial torch lighting by former and current county governors to symbolize a new leap forward for the region.
