South Korean regions designated for major sewage infrastructure upgrades

Several regions in South Korea have been designated as priority sewage management areas by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to prevent urban flooding.

Goyang City announced that the Hwajeong-dong area in Deogyang-gu will receive 23.4 billion won for sewage improvements. This follows severe flooding in August last year. The project includes installing 570 meters of new sewage pipes and upgrading 2,817 meters of existing lines, with completion targeted for 2030.

In South Chungcheong Province, Asan, Seosan, and Buyeo have been selected as part of nine priority areas nationwide. This initiative involves a total investment of approximately 165 billion won, including 99 billion won in national funds. The plan covers 4.38 square kilometers and includes the maintenance of 27.84 kilometers of sewage pipes and two rainwater pumping stations. Local authorities aim to complete administrative procedures by next year to begin construction in 2028.
