South Korean regions expand emergency medical center networks

South Korean regional authorities are expanding emergency medical infrastructure to secure the ‘golden hour’ for critical patients. Gyeonggi Province has officially designated 36 regional emergency medical centers, an increase from the previous 33. The new designations include Suwon Deoksan Hospital, Pocheon Woori Hospital, Wills Memorial Hospital, and Danwon Hospital, with terms lasting until October 2029.

Gyeonggi Province is also prioritizing vulnerable sectors, operating 55 facilities for pediatric care during nights and holidays. Additionally, the province is increasing specialized obstetric personnel at four integrated treatment centers for high-risk mothers and newborns to ensure 24-hour emergency delivery capabilities.

In Incheon, Incheon Naeun Hospital has been re-designated as a regional emergency medical center. The hospital will continue to operate a 24-hour emergency system, focusing on rapid diagnosis and multidisciplinary cooperation to strengthen the local medical safety net in coordination with emergency services.
