South Korean regions promote tourism at Japan's Tourism EXPO 2026

South Korean regional authorities, including Daegu Metropolitan City and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, participated in Tourism EXPO Japan 2026 held at Tokyo Big Sight from September 24 to 27. The event served as a strategic platform to promote local tourism and attract Japanese travelers through targeted marketing and business-to-business (B2B) consultations.

Daegu Metropolitan City engaged with 14 major Japanese travel agencies, including HIS, to discuss developing themed travel products tailored to Japanese trends. The city also hosted interactive events, such as a talk show with celebrity ambassador Mitsuru Matsuoka and food culture experiences involving local specialties like flat dumplings.

Jeju Tourism Organization, alongside three local tourism companies, conducted approximately 30 B2B consultations with Japanese travel agencies and online travel platforms (OTAs) like Hankyu Travel and Yomiuri Travel. Discussions focused on high-end travel, cruise tourism, and individual traveler (FIT) packages. Additionally, Jeju officials met with Korean Air to explore joint marketing strategies aligned with increased direct flight frequencies between Jeju and Japan during the upcoming winter season.
