South Korean regions Yeosu and Gyeongsangbuk-do recognized in national landmark project

South Korean regions Yeosu and Gyeongsangbuk-do have achieved significant recognition in the ‘South Korea Landmark Discovery 100x100’ project, an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization to identify and promote attractive national tourism resources.

Yeosu had 127 locations selected, the highest number in the Jeonnam and Gwangju regions. The selected sites span eight categories, including marine tourism, gastronomy, leisure, and history. Notable mentions include the Gukdong Gejang Alley, Dolsan Gat-kimchi, and various islands such as Geumodo and Geomundo. The city plans to link these landmarks with the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo to boost tourism.

Gyeongsangbuk-do ranked second nationally with 1,088 selections, following Seoul. Gyeongju led the province with 286 selections, including Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, which ranked fourth nationally. Other major contributors included Andong and Pohang. The province aims to leverage these results by developing themed tourism products and enhancing night tourism to convert public interest into actual visits.
