South Korean retailers expand affordable Chuseok gift sets

Retailers in South Korea are preparing for the Chuseok holiday with a focus on cost-effective and portable gift sets. Due to increased apple production this summer, apple gift set sales have risen by 50% compared to last year, driven by prices that are nearly 12% lower than the previous year. Shine Muscat grape prices have also dropped by over 20%, increasing consumer satisfaction with fruit sets.

In response to a relatively short holiday period, Lotte Mart has increased its supply of ‘hand-carry’ style gift sets by 25%. These smaller, more portable sets include fruits, nuts, seaweed, and daily necessities, catering to customers traveling home for the holiday. The government is also supporting these trends by expanding affordable, small-scale fruit sets through Hanaro Mart to reduce the financial burden on consumers.
