South Korean shipping industry provides 5 billion won for maritime talent

The South Korean shipping industry has contributed 5 billion won to support the cultivation of future maritime professionals. This funding was provided by the Korea Shipowners' Association, HMM, and the Foundation Bada-ui Pum.

The funds are designated for Korea Maritime & Ocean University and Mokpo National Maritime University to enhance maritime education and innovation. The investment aims to strengthen training in advanced maritime technologies, eco-friendly smart ships, and specialized expertise for the Arctic sea route, including the training of polar navigators.

This initiative follows a tripartite industry-academic cooperation agreement signed during the 31st Sea Day ceremony. The contribution was made possible by shipping companies redirecting a portion of resources saved through tonnage tax applications toward human resource development to ensure global competitiveness in the evolving maritime sector.
