South Korean stocks see target price downgrades despite Q2 profit beat

South Korean listed companies reported Q2 operating profits that exceeded securities firm estimates by 10.97%. Despite this strong performance, the number of stocks seeing lowered target prices (219) more than doubled the number of stocks seeing increases (94).

This discrepancy suggests that market corrections are currently exerting more influence on target price calculations than actual earnings improvements. While the aggregate annual operating profit consensus rose by 4.60% compared to June, stock prices have faced significant downward pressure.

Some semiconductor-related stocks, including Intekplus, Simmtech, PSK, and Samsung Electro-Mechanics, saw target prices rise despite falling share prices. For instance, Intekplus saw its target price consensus increase by 55.06% even as its stock price fell by 23.83%, driven by strong new orders in semiconductor inspection equipment.
