South Korean table tennis teams secure bronze at 2026 Asian Games
The South Korean table tennis national teams secured bronze medals in both the men’s and women’s team events at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after losing their respective semifinals to Japan. The men’s team, which had secured eight consecutive silver medals since 1994, failed to reach the final for the first time in 44 years. In the women’s event, star player Shin Yu-bin suffered a 0-3 loss to Japan’s Hina Hayata, with the team ultimately falling 0-3 in the match score.
Despite the setbacks in the team competitions, South Korea is shifting its focus toward individual and doubles events to secure gold medals. The world-ranked number one mixed doubles pair, Lim Jong-hoon and Shin Yu-bin, showed strong form by defeating a pair from Qatar 3-0 in their opening round, advancing to the round of 16 in just 15 minutes. Other notable contenders include the men’s doubles pair of Lim Jong-hoon and Oh Jun-sung, as well as individual medal hopefuls Jang Woo-jin and Shin Yu-bin.
