South Korean teachers' union official faces scrutiny over sexual misconduct conviction

A former teacher who was dismissed for sexual misconduct is serving as a high-ranking official and regional president for a teachers' union in South Korea. Investigations revealed that the individual, referred to as 'A', was convicted by the Supreme Court two years ago after being fined 30 million won for sexually abusing two sixth-grade students at an elementary school in Busan in 2019.

During a recent union general meeting, the union president defended the individual, claiming they were an unfair victim of false child abuse allegations and warning members not to discuss the matter. However, as the specific details of the sexual misconduct charges became known, many union members began resigning from the organization. The union president and the official in question have declined to provide detailed explanations to reporters.
