South Korean tech firms form alliance for Sovereign AI infrastructure

Five South Korean technology companies—Orchestro Cloud, FuriosaAI, Upstage, SPK Inc, and Daewon CTS—have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to co-develop a ‘Sovereign AI Full-Stack Appliance.’ This initiative aims to create an integrated AI infrastructure product that combines AI semiconductors, large language models (LLMs), cloud platforms, and data center hardware.

The project seeks to simplify the complex process of building AI services, which currently requires integrating disparate components like GPUs, servers, and cloud platforms. By providing a unified environment covering AI computing, cloud infrastructure, model inference, and operations, the group intends to reduce deployment costs and operational complexity for enterprises and public institutions.

A primary goal of the collaboration is to reduce reliance on foreign GPU and cloud technologies. By utilizing domestic technologies, such as FuriosaAI’s ‘RNGD’ NPU and Upstage’s ‘SOLAR’ LLM, the partners aim to provide customers with greater control over their data and AI operating environments. The companies also plan to offer managed services to assist with technical support and ongoing operations.
