South Korean Trade Minister arrives in U.S. to finalize investment deals
South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan has arrived in the United States to finalize negotiations regarding South Korean investments in the U.S. market. Arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport, Kim stated his purpose is to wrap up the ongoing discussions and noted that negotiations remain active until a final signature is obtained.
During his stay through the 12th, Kim is expected to meet with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and other government officials. Reports from the Wall Street Journal suggest that an agreement is imminent, with South Korea potentially investing over $100 billion in energy projects, including eight nuclear power plants and natural gas initiatives, as the first phase of its investment plan.
While Kim declined to confirm specific details, he indicated that results would be shared once finalized. Following his return to South Korea, he is expected to report the details of the first investment project to the National Assembly around the 17th, with a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing as early as the 18th.
