South Korean universities expand global research ties in US
Leading South Korean universities Sookmyung Women's University and Yonsei University are expanding their global research networks through strategic engagements in the United States.
At the 2026 US-Korea Conference (UKC 2026) in Orlando, Florida, Sookmyung Women's University hosted a forum to present its future research vision, focusing on convergence between advanced science, AI, and the humanities. President Moon Si-yeon emphasized the need for flexible governance to adapt to rapid AI advancements and highlighted the importance of human experience in higher education.
Simultaneously, Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-seop conducted a series of visits to strengthen international partnerships. This included signing a strategic agreement with Emory University to boost joint research in biotechnology and biomedical engineering, and meeting with officials at the Georgia Institute of Technology to discuss collaborative research and joint degree programs. Yonsei also held a dedicated session at UKC 2026 to engage with overseas Korean scientists and researchers.
