South Korean universities selected for 70 billion KRW annual regional growth support
The South Korean Ministry of Education has selected Chungnam National University, Pusan National University, and Chonnam National University as part of the 2026 ‘Making 10 Seoul National Universities’ package support program. Each selected institution will receive approximately 70 billion KRW in annual financial support through 2030.
Chungnam National University plans to establish the ‘NEXUS Science and Technology College’ and ‘NEXUS Convergence Research Institute’ by 2028. This initiative aims to create a virtuous cycle of talent cultivation, R&D, and industrial innovation by collaborating with KAIST and major anchor companies in sectors such as next-generation semiconductors, displays, advanced bio, and batteries.
Chonnam National University will focus on a southwest region mega-project centered on advanced semiconductors, future energy, and AI. The university intends to establish an advanced convergence college in 2028 and expand joint research with major corporations like Samsung and KEPCO. The program also includes a ‘Growth Engine U to B Alliance’ involving 27 universities to strengthen regional industrial links.
