South Korean universities showcase regional cooperation at 2026 EXPO

South Korean universities showcased regional cooperation achievements at the ‘2026 Industry-University-Research Cooperation EXPO’ held at KINTEX from September 30 to October 2.

Catholic Kwandong University presented a smart kiosk utilizing AI and digital technology. Designed to address medical accessibility gaps in Gangwon State caused by an aging population and mountainous terrain, the system allows residents to perform vision function tests and eye movement training in daily life settings. The technology includes an AI-based evaluation system and mobile application integration.

Baekseok University presented a coexistence model focused on nurturing local talent and solving regional issues in partnership with Nonsan, Cheonan, and Seocheon. Their initiatives include cultural projects like the musical ‘Hwangsanbeol’, local food festivals, and educational programs tailored to life cycles. The university also highlighted efforts to support foreign student settlement and create local entrepreneurship ecosystems to encourage youth to live and work within these regions.
