South Korean university applicants average 4.96 applications in 2027 early admissions
The Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) announced that for the 2027 academic year early admissions process, applicants applied to an average of 4.96 universities. This represents a slight increase from the 4.89 average recorded in the previous academic year.
Data analyzed from 210 general universities showed a total of 2,614,903 applications submitted by 527,717 applicants. During the screening process, the KCUE identified 428 individuals who violated the maximum limit of six applications. Under current regulations, any application beyond the sixth is invalid, and violations can lead to the cancellation of admission.
The KCUE has instructed universities to take corrective measures, such as canceling applications, for those found in violation. The council noted that industrial universities, junior colleges, and certain special law-based institutions are exempt from these application count restrictions. The KCUE plans to continue monitoring for violations during the upcoming regular and additional admission periods to maintain order in the university entrance process.
