Uwayapply admissions system error disrupts university applications

A server error occurred in the Uwayapply university admissions application system on September 11, lasting from approximately 5:50 PM to 6:20 PM. The outage occurred just ten minutes before the scheduled 6:00 PM deadline for 140 universities, causing significant disruption for students attempting to submit applications or process payments.

In response, the Korean Council for University Education (KCUE) extended the application deadline by one hour to 7:00 PM. However, the extension sparked fairness concerns among students who had already completed their applications. Some universities released competition rate data at the original 6:00 PM deadline, potentially giving late applicants an advantage by allowing them to adjust their choices based on real-time statistics.

The Ministry of Education and KCUE are working to identify and provide relief for an estimated 1,200 affected students. Relief measures will be based on digital logs showing attempts to save applications or process payments during the outage. The Ministry has pledged to investigate the cause of the failure and conduct a comprehensive review of the application system to prevent future occurrences.
