South Korean woman donates organs to save three lives after brain hemorrhage
Gu Jin-hee, a 55-year-old woman who had battled a rare disease for 25 years, passed away after donating her organs to save three lives. Gu collapsed due to a brain hemorrhage while traveling in Vietnam with her daughter. After being transferred to a hospital in South Korea, she was declared brain dead.
Following her lifelong wish to contribute to society through organ donation, her family consented to the procedure. Gu donated her liver and both kidneys, providing new life to three recipients. Her family noted that the decision was influenced by her values and the example of her mother, who had donated her body for medical study in 2021.
Despite suffering from idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura since 2001, Gu was known for her dedication to others, including volunteering in Cambodia and Mongolia and supporting her community in Busan. The Korea Organ Donation Agency expressed deep gratitude to the family for their noble decision.
