South Korean Woman Seeks Divorce Over Husband's Affair with Female Streamer
Ms. A, a South Korean woman in her 30s who runs an online shopping mall, disclosed that her husband of eight years secretly met a popular female internet streamer (BJ) in a hotel room during the day. The husband had been sending large monthly donations to the streamer and claimed the meetings were merely sponsor dinners, saying “young people support idols with pure fandom.”
Feeling betrayed, Ms. A decided to file for divorce but expressed concern over property division, noting that about 80% of the couple’s assets—an apartment, savings, and business profits—originated from her pre‑marriage earnings. She was advised by attorney Park Seon Ah of Shinsagae Law Firm to gather evidence such as hotel payment records, entry logs, and donation receipts. The lawyer said damages could range from ₩10 million to ₩30 million (approximately $7,000‑$21,000) if the abnormal donations and hotel meetings are proven to have caused the marital breakdown.
