South Korean workers missing in Nepal floods

Eight South Korean employees working on a hydroelectric power plant construction project in the Rasuwa district of Nepal have gone missing following massive flooding on August 26. The workers are affiliated with Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility.

In addition to the missing personnel, 10 other South Korean employees from Doosan Enerbility are currently isolated at the site and awaiting rescue. The Nepalese government has deployed helicopters and search and rescue teams, including army and police units, to the affected area.

The South Korean government has established a headquarters for the protection of overseas citizens, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Following presidential instructions to prioritize the safety of citizens, a joint rapid response team consisting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Fire Agency, and the National Police Agency will be dispatched to Nepal. Doosan Enerbility has also formed an emergency response center and is sending a field team, including its CEO, to assist in the rescue efforts.
