South Korean YouTubers assessed 23.9 billion won in taxes last year
South Korean tax authorities have significantly increased the amount of taxes collected from YouTubers following targeted audits. Data released by the National Tax Service to lawmaker Jung Tae-ho reveals that in the last year alone, 17 YouTubers were assessed 23.9 billion won in taxes, averaging approximately 1.4 billion won per person.
Over the past seven years, tax investigations into 84 YouTubers resulted in a total of 47.5 billion won in assessed taxes, with an overall average of 565 million won per individual. These assessments include income from YouTube platform advertisements, Super Chats, and other business activities conducted by the creators.
While the number of individuals targeted for audits has seen a slight decline recently, the total tax amount imposed has surged. The National Tax Service is currently conducting high-intensity audits on 16 additional creators this year, specifically targeting ‘cyber wreckers,’ real estate and tax-related influencers, and those spreading false or inappropriate content.
