South Korea's Agriculture Ministry Inspects Livestock Farms Amid Heatwave

Amid an ongoing heatwave, South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs conducted on‑site inspections of pig and beef farms in Sejong City to assess heat‑stress response measures. The ministry reported that, as of July 28, 365,171 livestock died from extreme temperatures – 22,838 pigs and 342,333 poultry – a figure about 24 % lower than the same period last year.

Authorities are providing cooling equipment, emergency water supplies, and heat‑stress relief agents to farms, and have allocated an additional 4.1 billion won to the livestock disaster relief fund for expanded support such as heat‑blocking coatings and rapid‑response water trucks. Officials urged farmers to ensure adequate ventilation, sufficient water, appropriate stocking densities, and to monitor worker health during the prolonged high‑temperature spell.
