South Korea's Anti-Corruption Commission recommends waste disposal reforms

The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) has issued recommendations to local governments to improve household waste disposal systems and reduce service disparities between regions.

To address inconveniences, the ACRC recommended that 28 local governments lacking online systems establish internet and mobile platforms for reporting large-scale waste and paying fees electronically. This aims to eliminate the need for residents to visit administrative centers or sticker vendors in person.

The commission also addressed issues faced by residents moving between regions. It recommended that 18 local governments improve systems to allow newcomers to use or exchange unused standard plastic garbage bags purchased in their previous locations.

Furthermore, to support foreign residents, the ACRC advised 95 local governments to provide multilingual guidance on waste disposal. This includes instructions on recycling, food waste, and large-scale waste reporting via websites, QR codes, and pictograms to overcome language barriers.
