Heavy Rain Forces Evacuation of Over 500 Residents in Central South Korea

Intense rainstorms that began on July 17 swept central South Korea, prompting emergency measures across six provinces. By July 20, 557 people were temporarily displaced from 374 households, with 119 still unable to return home and 83 housed in temporary shelters. The floods triggered 256 reports of house and road inundation and 572 incidents of landslides or rock falls. Agricultural lands suffered damage to 41.6 hectares of crops and 7.1 hectares of farmland. No fatalities have been confirmed. The Korea Ministry of Interior and Safety kept the disaster alert at “caution” and activated a secondary response team, while local authorities inspected over 150,000 structures for flood risk. Additional rainfall of 30‑80 mm is forecast for the night, with continued monitoring of heightened river levels in the region.
