South Korea's Gyeongbuk, Gyeonggi Provinces Secure Funding for On-Device AI Projects

The Gyeongbuk provincial government was selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s “On‑Device AI Demonstration and Diffusion” program and secured 106 billion won in funding. The project will involve the city of Gumi, the Gyeongbuk Techno‑Park, domestic semiconductor designer Deepax and AI‑driven CCTV and drone firms. Its pilots will use on‑device AI CCTV to analyse real‑time traffic flow in the Gumi industrial complex, deploy drones for road‑infrastructure inspections, and build a digital‑twin platform that visualises logistics and transportation data for the zone.

Gyeonggi Province was also chosen for the same national programme, receiving up to 98 billion won (including 59 billion won in state grants) to create a wide‑area AI fire‑safety network covering industrial parks, logistics facilities and traditional markets. The plan installs AI‑enabled CCTV and graphene‑sensor devices that detect flames, smoke and hazardous gases, processes data locally with domestic NPU chips, and feeds alerts to an integrated control platform. A parallel test will trial AI‑controlled fire‑fighting robots at a recycling centre. Both initiatives aim to demonstrate rapid, cloud‑independent AI responses for public safety and industrial efficiency.
