Lee Jun-seok alleges People Power Party involvement in Jeong Ihan staged attack scandal
Former Reform Party mayoral candidate Jeong Ihan was charged with staging a drink‑throwing attack during the Busan mayoral campaign and was subsequently arrested. Reform Party leader Lee Jun-seok claimed that members of the ruling People Power Party (PPP) may have orchestrated the incident to split the opposition vote.
PPP officials rejected the allegation, labeling it a baseless political attack and defending their campaign conduct. Park Hyung‑joon, a PPP figure, called Lee’s claim an unfounded conspiracy. The dispute has heightened tensions within the conservative camp ahead of the upcoming elections, with both parties demanding evidence and the police continuing their investigation into Jeong’s confession and the alleged involvement of any party operatives.
