South Korea's policy chief Kim Yong-beom faces opposition calls to resign over real estate and finance setbacks
Opposition leader People Power Party officials urged Kim Yong-beom, the head of the Blue House's policy office, to step down, blaming him for soaring apartment prices, a 1,500‑won exchange rate and accelerating inflation. Party spokesman Choi Eun‑seok said the policies championed by Kim have failed and that resignation is the minimum duty of a public official.
Earlier, Kim had addressed a forum on AI and industrial strategy, arguing that national power now depends on rapid, large‑scale production capacity, especially in semiconductors. He called for the government to eliminate bottlenecks in power supply, water, transmission lines and permit procedures, citing large projects such as the Yongin semiconductor cluster and the 800‑trillion‑won investment in the Honam region as vital for maintaining South Korea's competitive edge.
