South Korea's special prosecutor seeks 5‑year sentence for ex‑President Yoon over alleged coup‑related crimes

The second comprehensive special investigation team (특검) in South Korea is examining the creation of a secret “Guardian Angel” task force (수호신 TF) within the Army Capital Defense Command, alleged to have been ordered by former commander Lee Jin‑woo to prepare for a Dec 3 emergency martial law. The team has summoned a mid‑level military police officer for questioning and plans further interviews, accusing Lee of abuse of authority and of establishing the task force as a pre‑emptive coup structure.

In a related courtroom hearing, the same special prosecutor asked the Seoul Central District Court to impose a five‑year prison term on former President Yoon Suk‑yeol for allegedly arranging the overseas escape of former Defense Minister Lee Jong‑seop to Australia and for other abuses of power.
