South Lebanon faces use of explosive pink canisters
In southern Lebanon, Israeli forces are reportedly using unconventional explosive devices known locally as “pink death canisters.” These devices consist of plastic containers filled with highly explosive materials, often deployed via drones into targeted homes and buildings, including areas that have not seen ground incursions.
Retired Brigadier General Walid Sheya noted that these canisters may contain chemical compounds, such as ammonia, which can cause severe respiratory issues, eye irritation, and suffocation. While definitive identification requires laboratory testing, the materials are noted for their strong odors and potential for causing widespread destruction and fires.
The use of these devices is viewed as a method to destroy infrastructure and prevent the future use of residential or agricultural land. Experts suggest this tactic may serve as field preparation for potential ground operations by establishing a new reality on the ground while minimizing direct risk to soldiers.
