South London councils plan new homes and housing service relocations

Kingston Council in south London is considering the demolition of a former office block that forms part of its Guildhall complex. Developer Kier Property has proposed replacing the empty building with about 100 new homes, alongside shops and offices, and will run a public consultation from 16 July to 16 August.

Separately, Croydon Council intends to move its housing and homelessness reception service from Bernard Weatherill House to Cavendish House on South End. The relocation will keep the appointment‑only system introduced after the walk‑in service closed, but the council’s decision is being challenged in the High Court after a disabled resident argued the closure discriminated against him. The judicial review could have broader implications for London’s homelessness services.
