South Louisiana high school football faces rising stadium violence
A surge in violence at high school football stadiums across South Louisiana is threatening local sports programs and family experiences. Recent incidents include fights occurring in the stands, near the stadiums, and on the playing fields.
In one notable instance, the annual homecoming game in Oberlin, Louisiana, was canceled after two Oberlin High School coaches engaged in a fight. If the violence continues, school districts and the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) may implement extreme safety measures, such as locking stadium gates to restrict attendance to families only. Such restrictions could lead to a loss of essential revenue for school sports programs.
