South Moor Vets use GS‑441524 to cure kittens of fatal FIP

Two rescued kittens, Bob and Buddy, were brought to South Moor Vets in Devon after both fell ill with severe respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms. Blood tests indicated feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a historically fatal coronavirus disease in cats. The clinic obtained the antiviral medication GS‑441524, a derivative of the human drug Remdesivir originally developed for Ebola and later used for COVID‑19, and began treatment within a day.

The kittens responded quickly, regaining playfulness, appetite, and weight. Over a 12‑week course, blood tests confirmed the infection was under control. After the medication was stopped, both cats continued to thrive, gaining weight, receiving vaccinations and neutering, and are expected to lead normal lives.
