South Moravia preserves Iron Curtain remnants and natural landmarks
The landscape of South Moravia, particularly within the Podyjí National Park, preserves significant historical and natural landmarks. Remnants of the Iron Curtain, including barbed wire fences and guard towers, remain visible near Čížov. These sites serve as outdoor museums, illustrating the former strictly controlled border zone between Czechoslovakia and Austria.
In addition to historical sites, the region offers natural attractions such as the Devět mlýnů lookout. This viewpoint provides panoramas of the Dyje River and the Šobes vineyard. To protect rare plant species like the large chamomile, park authorities have implemented controlled access, requiring visitors to stay on designated wooden-fenced paths to prevent environmental damage.
