South Oropouche police investigate abandoned newborn
Police in Trinidad and Tobago have launched an investigation after a newborn baby girl, approximately four days old, was found abandoned in a cardboard box in South Oropouche. The infant was discovered by a Spanish national walking near the South Oropouche Government Primary School.
The baby, who was found inside a black plastic bag wrapped in a blanket with her umbilical cord still attached, was reported to be in good health with no visible signs of physical harm. Following the discovery, the infant was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) confirmed that the mother has been identified and detectives from the Oropouche Police Station are investigating the circumstances of the abandonment. The Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is also involved in the case.
