South Papua advances infrastructure and building projects

The Indonesian Ministry of Public Works has confirmed that the construction of the Papua Selatan Majelis Rakyat Papua (MRP) building in Merauke will proceed once legal proceedings reach a final and binding status. The project was previously halted following a contract termination for the contractor, PT Tureloto Battu Indah, which failed to meet completion deadlines. While the contractor filed a lawsuit, the Jayapura District Court rejected the claim, and the case is currently under appeal.

Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo emphasized that as a new autonomous region, South Papua's infrastructure is part of a National Strategic Program aimed at inclusive development.

Simultaneously, the South Papua Provincial Government is accelerating road infrastructure projects to improve connectivity. Governor Apolo Safanpo stated that several road segments are being developed using both state and regional budgets. This includes a 9-kilometer stretch from SP 9 Tanah Miring to Salor, intended to facilitate faster access between Merauke and the provincial government center in Salor.
