South Park creators apologize for Whitney Springs film delays

South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have issued a public apology regarding the repeated delays of their upcoming musical comedy film, Whitney Springs. In a statement to The Ankler, the duo took full responsibility for the scheduling issues, citing South Park commitments and unspecified “life’s circumstances” as primary factors.

The project, a collaboration with rapper Kendrick Lamar and his company pgLang, is being produced for Paramount Pictures. While an official release date has not been set, the film was previously scheduled for July 2025 and later March 2026 before being removed from Paramount’s release calendar. Reports suggest the film’s budget has exceeded $100 million.

Written by Vernon Chatman, Whitney Springs is described as a musical following a young Black man working as a historical reenactor at a slave plantation museum in the U.S. Midwest. The plot involves the protagonist clashing with a racist town mayor, a role played by Parker. The film is expected to feature original, previously unreleased music by Lamar.
