South Park renames town to South America for Season 29

The animated series South Park has premiered its 29th season, introducing significant changes to the show’s setting and presentation. In the debut episode, titled ‘South American Biker Gangs’, the town has been officially renamed ‘South America’. This change is integrated into the show’s environment, with landmarks such as the police station and town hall displaying the new name, and characters using it without resistance.

In a rare move for the long-running series, the opening theme song has also been overhauled. This marks only the fifth time in 29 years that the show has significantly altered its theme. The new version features Les Claypool of the band Primus performing a rendition adapted for the ‘South America’ setting.

Season 29 also signals a shift in narrative focus. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone appear to be returning to the show’s fundamentals by centering the story on the core four boys, while reducing the prominence of political figures like Donald Trump compared to previous seasons.
