South Park Season 29 premiere sees ratings jump after rebranding

The Season 29 premiere of ‘South Park’ achieved significant viewership and ratings growth following a satirical rebranding of the series to ‘South America’. The name change was intended by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone as a parody of the Trump administration’s efforts to rename U.S. landmarks.

Across Comedy Central and Paramount+ in the U.S., the premiere drew 4.2 million viewers within its first three days. While this total was slightly lower than the 4.3 million viewers reached by the Season 28 premiere, the show saw a substantial increase in the key 18-49 demographic. The episode recorded a 0.97 rating among adults aged 18 to 49, representing a 33% jump from the previous season’s 0.73 rating.

The premiere was the most-watched cable telecast of the week for adults 18-49, excluding sports. The rebranding also drove significant social media engagement, generating 11 million views and one million engagements in three days.
