South Park Donald Trump name change satire Emmy Award

Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced that the animated series ‘South Park’ will be rebranded as ‘South America’ for its 29th season, set to premiere on September 16. The move is a satirical response to President Donald Trump’s recent executive actions to rename various geographic locations, such as renaming Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ and the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America.’

The announcement specifically mocks tech companies Apple and Google, which updated their map applications to reflect these new names for U.S. users. The creators stated they were ‘inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google’ in making these changes.

Additionally, the show targeted its parent company, Paramount, calling it a ‘Skydance Capitulation’ in reference to the recent merger with Skydance Corporation. This rebranding follows the show’s recent Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode ‘Sermon on the Mount,’ which itself featured heavy political satire regarding the Trump administration.
