South Pelion: Compensation plan announced for weather disaster victims

Greek Deputy Minister for Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Kostas Katsafados, has announced a timeline for providing financial aid to residents of South Pelion affected by the severe weather on October 28. Following a meeting in Argalasta with Mayor Michalis Mitsikos, officials stated that the first financial reinforcements will be paid within five working days of the submission of a completed municipal request, provided that inspections and necessary documentation are finalized.

The compensation package is set to cover 100% of damages to buildings and 70% of damages to household equipment. Teams from the General Secretariat for the Recovery of Natural Disaster Consequences are already conducting inspections in the flooded areas.

Additionally, the State Aid Committee is expected to meet next week to consider suspending tax and insurance obligations for those affected. By November 16, a Government Committee for State Aid will convene to evaluate the municipality's request for funding to restore local infrastructure, a request that the Deputy Minister indicated would receive full support.
